Biosolids and Sludge Management System
Version 1 Gemini2 is designed to support the end-to-end process from sludge collection and treatment to biosolids disposal or recycling to land. Version 1 Gemini2 has powerful interfaces for a number of activities, these include:
Automated import of sludge movement information and laboratory sample analysis
Electronic issue of job lots for septic tank emptying requests and receipt of feedback on work done
Link to corporate GIS systems can be used for maintenance of locations like fields and septic tank sites in a map-based environment
Inbuilt diaries allowing records to be maintained on activities related to a particular site (e.g. inspections) and application diaries for the progress of a planned application of biosolids to be monitored against a pre-defined workflow
Ability to calculate optimal biosolids addition rates for regulatory compliance and the assessment of the impact of these on the overall crop nutrient management plan
Configuration of the regulations with a defined set of limits
Compliance can be tested by sample, application either ad-hoc or by the running of a scheduled routine
Maintains details of commercial bodies, e.g. the Environment Agency, farming companies, vehicle contractors, water and sewerage companies etc, and premises e.g. head offices, treatment works, farms etc. Other details maintained here include determinands, vehicles, location types, sample points etc.
Facilitates staff management, profile access and auditing. It allows the user to create profiles to which users can be linked. User access can then be controlled. Audit Trail Maintenance can be user-controlled down to individual attributes within database tables with options to audit, insert, amend and/or delete actions.
BIOSOLIDS CORE MODULE
Supports all procedures required by European legislation for the audit of movements of sludge and biosolids. Full compliance checking against the EU Directive for the Disposal of Sludge to Agricultural Land including taking into account the cumulative effect of biosolids additions to soil, Potentially Toxic Element (PTE) levels, hydraulic limits on applications and “Safe Sludge Matrix” requirements for timing of applications in relation to crop harvesting. The Reporter includes pre-defined reports to help manage the biosolids recycling service. Link to the nutrient management module allows the user to draw up a plan for the crop that includes the biosolids addition as one source of nutrients.
GIS interface for the maintenance of locations like fields, sample points within a map-based environment. The system can be GIS-controlled (locations are first created in GIS then imported for maintenance of sludge-related features) or GIS-supported (locations are created first in Version 1 Gemini2 then exported to GIS for maintenance of physical feature data). The API activates a “Map Zoom” button that enables the visualization of the current location on a map and print where required.
Provides the facilities needed to plan applications of biosolids to land. Before applying biosolids to a field, the user can carry out a trial application to look at limits on PTEs, predict cumulative soil concentrations, review Safe Matrix restrictions etc. The user has the option to specify a biosolids application rate and have it checked or ask to calculate the maximum application rate allowed.
Once planned, an application diary allows the user to progress through a series of programmed steps, e.g. notifications to the farmer and to regulatory bodies and production of permits for the haulier.
NUTRIENT MANAGEMENT MODULE
Uses the standard UK methodology that is contained in DEFRA’s RB209 definition, for the derivation of a nutrient management plan for a field based on crop, soil and factors. Optimum addition rates of biosolids, industrial wastes, farmyard manures and fertiliser can be calculated.
SEPTIC TANK MODULE
Contains all the facilities necessary to maintain a septic tank emptying service and feeds back details of the sludge collected. Includes support for chargeable and non-chargeable emptying, jobsheet creation and contract management.
