Mizuho Bank is a leading global financial institution and one of Japan’s “megabanks”. It prides itself on putting its customers first and takes its commitment to delivering faultless customer service and ensuring operational resilience very seriously indeed. The bank recognised the need to modernise its ageing Oracle technology infrastructure and, with several components nearing end-of-life, Mizuho faced the challenge of maintaining support, mitigating risk and leveraging the latest features and patches.

Mizuho’s end-of-life component roster included its Oracle Database, Oracle Business Intelligence Applications, and Hyperion EPM suite, which posed a risk to operational continuity and raised concerns during internal and external audits. Additionally, the end of extended support for the operating system and database further amplified the need for an urgent upgrade.

Mizuho envisioned a fully supported technology platform that would reduce operational risk and ensure compliance. The bank also sought a seamless path to future Fusion Applications and the benefits of improved performance and stability.

We partnered with Mizuho to embark on a comprehensive upgrade journey that addressed their specific challenges and aspirations, which included upgrading the Oracle database, business intelligence applications, and data integrator. We also replaced their on-premises EPM solution with the cloud-based Oracle EPM Enterprise Cloud Suite, future-proofing their financial planning and analysis capabilities.

Recognising the complexities involved, we meticulously navigated customisations within Oracle Data Integrator and devised a workaround for the decommissioned Enterprise Performance Management Architect. We also ensured the latest patch sets were applied, enhancing security and mitigating vulnerabilities.

Through our collaborative efforts, Mizuho now boasts a fully featured Oracle technology platform with comprehensive support until 2025. This upgrade has significantly reduced operational risk, providing a more secure and compliant environment, and the bank now also enjoys improved performance, stability, and a simplified path to future innovations.
